Every year one of my biggest resolutions is to have less debt. Well this last year (2008) I gained more debt than expected.
So I started to evaluate all the extras. HBO, NETFLIX, AOL and COX, second phone line, cell phones. In order to apply more to the credit cards I need more. I decided to cancel: HBO, NETFLIX and the second phone line which is a monthly savings of $67 equaling $804 per year.
Since I have Cox high speed, do I really need AOL? Since I have cell phones do I really need a land line for the house?
Eating out and on the run also creates unnecessary costs. Here the plan is simple, plan meals and eat at home more often, use eating out as an reward.
Grocery bills are the another BIG junk of $$$. We will shop when we need to and use coupons, from the paper and online and most importantly stick to a list. If it is not on the list it is not NEEDED.
I am sure there are areas that I am missing - would love to know how you plan to save in 2009. Please share your thoughts.

Batch cooking is a huge money-saver. Not only does it stretch basic ingredients further, but one surmises that it reduces energy use as well - one cooking session for multiple meals.
It amazes me how little things can add up so quickly.
